JÝCHYMOV - the
spa town located on the southern slopes of the Krušné hory (Ore Mountains)
at an altitude of 650 m, in an area which is unlikely rich in the occurrence
of minerals (230 types of minerals are to be found within an area ofjust
a few square kilometers). Two of them had even a striking effect on the
global history. First, at the beginning of 16th century the silver received
of enormous deposits of silver ore was used for minting coins called Tholers
- Thalers -Tolars - Dollars which spread over in America giving there
the name of American Dollar. Later on, in 1898 Marie and Piere Curie isolated
of the Jáchymov, uranium ore a completely new element, radium. Due to
this unique discovery the Curies were awarded the Nobel prize. Afterwards
the high content of radon noble gas was proved in Jáchymov mine waters
and, in result of this experience, the first radon spa of the world was
open at Jáchymov in 1906. The radon bath treatment is based on an unspecific
stimulative effect induced by micro-doses of the alpha-radiation.

AKADEMIKA BEHOUNKA A moder sanatorium built in 1976 with all treatment facilities which enable in-house treatment of even severely disabled patiens at any time. Accommodation offers 268 beds in rooms with bath, WC, TV CURIE A sanatorium built in 1992 with complex treatment facilities for both standart treatment and treatment of severely disabled patients needing specialized rehabilitation. Accommodation offers 128 beds.
